AL NOCE
I am an artist, teacher, and student based in Massachusetts. My artistic process tends to be an unwinding of forms into little directional lines, often in pencil or fine ink marker. I naturally gravitate to organic shapes and enjoy drawing images inspired by articles or books. My portfolio encompasses a diverse range of mediums and sizes, from the handheld "Interviews with Bugs" zine to the 15x15ft mural "Lost Moon Holler", a collaborative project with my husband, Lane.
My artistic journey is intertwined with my ongoing education. Initially pursuing a degree in art, I transitioned schools and programs to study into natural resources, with a specialization in art education. My overarching aspirations are to instill curiosity in my students as they embark on shaping our world. Ideally they will learn their small actions (even little lines) can effect a broader change
Materials
Typically when I draw my go-to is a 2HB pencil of any brand. This, along with a 2H, 4B, 8B pencils make up my graphite essentials. There are some other tools amongst my kit though: Stabilo pens, Sakura Micron pens, Niji Watercolor set, and Prismacolor color pencils.
I no longer use Photoshop. My experience has led me to prefer Procreate for a more traditional approach to digital art. In my opinion, Procreate translates the nuances of traditional techniques into the digital format far more effectively. It is also much more affordable, if you can get a used Ipad which is what I draw on now!
